What is recorded here

Mentioned in local lists but never defined, the cairn in County Carlow remains a mark rather than a recorded chamber. It may have guided people, honoured someone or limited a boundary, yet no surviving account says which. That absence does not diminish it; it refuses to be reduced into a familiar category.

The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Earth-covered cairn (H 2.1m; summit diam. c. 12m; base diam. c. 20m) with gently sloping sides. Stone protrudes in places.
