Cairn

Cairn, unclassified

What is recorded here

Carrickedmond is a vanished place. Wright recorded a circular bone feature in 1758, but agriculture or time erased every stone. Faughart Hill may have hidden another cairn when a bronze palstave surfaced, yet even that trace is gone. What remains is absence itself, a hollow where human hands once shaped the earth.
A bronze palstave was found 'on Faughart Hill in a heap of stones (probably the remains of a cairn)' (CLAJ 1904, 63). Exact location unknown. Compiled by: Claire Breen DAte of upload: 18 November 2011
