Half-buried in rough pasture above the bog, the grassy mound still wears its curved stone shelf like a made-to-measure collar. A shallow trench scars one edge where someone dug through the top and dumped the spoil back across it. The hollow place may have cooked food, marked a boundary or held a dead person, but its shape suggests pride rather than accident.

At the base of a S-facing slope, in rough pasture with boggy ground to immediately to W, and within a large multiperiod field system (CL009-030001-). Listed as ‘Fulachta fiadh’ in the RMP (1996), following initial identification by Tom Coffey (SMR file). This grass-covered subcircular cairn (8.8m N-S; 8.2m E-W; H 0.6-0.9m) is built on a slight rise or shelf of rock outcrop (H c. 0.8m) which curves around the edge of the cairn at SE-NW, 1.6-3m away from its base. This shelf has rough edges and may have been deliberately modified to achieve this curvature and margin around the cairn. The top of the cairn has been excavated, resulting in a trench (Wth c. 1m; D 0.3-0.5m) which curves from E to S around an upright stone slab (H 0.6m; L 0.55m; T 0.05-0.1m). The stone is oriented NW-SE and has a rounded profile. Spoil from the excavation trench was dumped on the cairn. Compiled by: Mary Tunney and Conn Herriott Date of upload: 21 June 2022
