Carran is a small village in County Clare where Michael Cusack inspired the Gaelic Athletic Association. It sits on rocky Burren pasture near Slieve Carran, with old church ruins and a clear spring said to belong to Saint Columb. The name means the cairn, and the place still keeps that shape: stones gathered, people gathered around them.

In a fertile valley at the foot of Gortaclare Mountain and within an extensive field system (CL006-042001-). Described by Carey (2008, 55-6) as a trapezoidal cairn (max.
