Eight stone burial mounds still hide somewhere in Barrow, County Kerry, though no one now knows which field holds them. The largest measured twenty feet across and five feet high, a broad low table of dead weight rising above the grass. They vanished not from the land but from memory, leaving behind a gap shaped exactly like eight burials.

The precise location of eight cairns in the townland of Barrow recorded in the Minute Book of County Kerry Field Club 6 December 1941 (Vol. 1, 242) has not been identified. The Kerry Field Club recorded that they found 'no less than eight burial mounds of stone; some very large. One that they measured was 20 ft [6m] x 20 ft [6m] by 5 ft [1.5m] above the surrounding ground level'. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 14 June 2022
