Carran, meaning the cairn, sits on Burren limestone where Saint Columb allegedly dug a bed into rock and left a spring beside it. Michael Cusack was born there, later helping create the Gaelic Athletic Association, while copper mines and ruined churches fill the surrounding townlands. The village still holds a schoolhouse, pub and hostel among rocky pasture, keeping both sports history and saintly legend alive in one small Clare address.

Situated on a summit in gently undulating land 10m W of a townland boundary. A cairn of stones (6m N-S; 4m E-W; max. H 1.2m) overgrown with briars and blackthorn. No structural stones are visible. Possibly a clearance cairn. Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 9 February 2016
