What is recorded here
Cairn stands on a NW-facing slope in County Meath, a circular mound of small stones stretching 16.5m N-S and 15.5m E-W. In 1961 disturbance revealed a short drystone wall supporting a lintel at the centre, now visible through the southern opening. The structure remains extant, its hidden chamber exposed to the sky and memory.
Situated on a NW-facing slope. A cairn, described as circular (diam. 16.5m N-S; 15.5m E-W; H 2m) and composed of relatively small stones was disturbed in 1961 when a short length of drystone walling was revealed. This was supporting a lintel at the centre pf the cairn (NMI file). The cairn is still extant but open at the S, with the drystone walling (L 2.2m; T 0.6m; H 0.35m) aligned NNE-SSW and the lintel visible. Some kerbstones are visible at SE and SW. Archaeological testing (11E0123) by D. Finn c. 150m to the W produced no related material (excavations.ie 2011:477).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Meath' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1987). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
