Cairn

Listed as 'Ring-barrow possible' in the SMR (1992) and the RMP (1996). Situated on a level part of the Burren plateau with a higher ridge extending N c. 500m to the W. A subrectangular ring of stone (11.6m N-S x 8.5m E-W; Wth 2.1-2.4m; H 0.2-0.3m) with a similarly shaped cairn (8.4m N-S x 6.7m E-W; H 1.3m) within it. The cairn and ring are grass-covered and much disturbed and there is a large quarry (4.35m E-W x 2.8m N-S; D 0.2-0.6m) in the cairn, aligned E-W. 6 kerbstones, in an almost straight line define the N extent of the cairn and a further 2 kerbstones remain at the S extent. A ring-cairn, likely dating to the Neolithic or early Bronze Age; its circular stone arrangement suggests ritual or funerary use typical of the Burren region. Its location and form contribute to understanding burial practices and landscape use in western Ireland.
