What is recorded here

Clearance cairns are mundane, but this one is not. A 36-metre oval of earth and stone sits on the bed of a drowned lake, its flat top and measured shape belonging to a much older and more deliberate hand. The water left, the field appeared, and the mound emerged like a forgotten thought returning to a person. It still stands beside Pollacat Well, patient and exact, waiting for someone to remember what it marked.

On the crest of a SW-facing slope and close to the W corner of a field. Grass-covered earth and stone cairn (dims 5.4m N-S; 3.8m E-W; H 1m) with an irregular surface, which is probably a clearance cairn. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
