What is recorded here

Gateway, extant 1903, on a symmetrical plan comprising pair of repointed piers having finial-topped pyramidal capping with red brick Flemish bond outer piers having pyramidal capping. Road fronted at entrance to grounds of Butlerstown Castle.
A gateway forming part of a neat self-contained group alongside an adjacent gate lodge (see 15704781) with the resulting ensemble not only making a pleasing visual statement in a sylvan street scene at the entrance on to the grounds of the Butlerstown Castle estate, but also clearly illustrating the continued development or "improvement" of the estate by John Boxwell (1771-1859).

This does not grant access. Most recorded buildings are privately owned; view them only from public ground unless the owner allows entry.
