Saltire Place still holds a nineteenth-century cottage at 41 Castle Street, small enough to hide inside Port Bannatyne yet precise enough to mark on a modern map. It may have given shelter to fishermen, servants or children, and its walls may have listened to arguments, lullabies or storms. Bute does not need grand claims when an address remains sharp; the town remembers through doors, stones and the lives that touched them.
