Burnt mound in Tanrego West

Situated in marshy ground at the base of the E-facing slope of a low ridge. A low circular mound (diam. c. 15m; H 0.5m) is evident at the interface of the wet ground and the dry rising slope. In the section face of a modern NE-SW drain, which clips the N edge of the mound, a layer (D 1m) of burnt stone and charcoal is exposed. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 12 May 2011

Burnt mound in Tanrego West is a Bronze Age ritual or industrial site, characterised by a low circular mound containing heat-shattered stones. Its location at the interface of wet and dry ground suggests possible use in water management, cooking, or ceremonial activities typical of the period.
