Burnt mound in Rosspile

Burnt mound

What is recorded here

Situated on a slight E-facing slope. A magnetic gradiometer survey (20R0129) over an extensive area identified a subcircular feature (dims c. 20m E-W; c. 10m N-S) with a strong magnetic susceptibility, which may indicate a possible burnt mound or fulacht fia. (Nicholls 2020, 11 F 33, Figs 10, 23) Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 30 December 2020
A Bronze Age burnt mound; likely associated with domestic or ritual activity. Its subcircular shape and magnetic signature suggest a significant but poorly understood function in early settlement practices.
