In pasture, at the base of a SW-facing slope close to the N shoreline of Bekan Lough. The mound (diam. c. 8m) is visible as a very low, sod-covered rise with small patches of stony black soil exposed where the surface has been denuded by farm stock. The full original extent of the mound is unclear. Traces of cultivation ridges, on a NE–SW axis, are discernible in the surrounding field. There is a burnt mound (MA092-114----) c. 140m to S, a burnt mound (MA092-115----) c. 200m to SSE, and a possible burnt spread (MA092-117----) c. 220m to SE. Burnt mound in Greenwood is a Neolithic ritual or industrial site, dated to approximately 4000–2500 BCE. Its significance lies in providing evidence of early human activity, possibly related to heat-treated stone use or ceremonial practices.
