Burnt mound in Ballyclogh North

Burnt mound

What is recorded here

This is the record for the burnt mound (Area B) excavated by Yvonne Whitty (E3232) on the N11 road improvement scheme. Associated with the spread of burnt material was a trough with a timber lining, and a wattle screen on its N side. Also adjacent was an area of large unburnt stones interpreted as a working platform. A radiocarbon date from this feature dates it to the late Bronze Age. (Whitty 2009k) Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 22 January 2013
Burnt mound, Late Bronze Age. Significance lies in its association with ritual or industrial activity, indicated by the trough and wattle screen, reflecting domestic or ceremonial practices of the period.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
