Burial in Unknown Townland

Human remains were recovered from a burrow at the base of a tree in January 2016. Further to examination and analysis for the National Museum of Ireland the human remains were found to represent two individuals, a single older adult male and one bone representing an infant. According to the Park Rangers an earlier discovery of a child's burial had been made at the same location some 30 years previously. Soil matrix adhering to the bones demonstrate that the bones had been buried before they were found on the surface. A pig's tooth was found in association with the remains. The radiocarbon date is AD 997-1162 at 95% probability curve makes it likely that the true date can be refined slightly to AD 1011-1162, contemporary with nearby Hiberno-Norse Dublin (pers comm.
