Burial in Timogue

The files of the National Museum of Ireland records that in October 1969 human remains were discovered during ESB works at Timogue, Co. Laois (Cahill & Sikora 2011, Vol. 2, 491). The site was reported to the Gardaí, who investigated the site, but no information as to the disposition of the remains was recorded. The remains were discovered immediately south of two curvilinear earthwork (LA019-008-, 009-) and approximately half a kilometer south of Timogue Church (LA019-007001-), graveyard (LA019-007003-) and castle (LA019-006-). A holy well (LA019-010) is located 630m to the S. The site was not investigated by NMI personnel and the remains were not acquired. The SMR notes a Cist (LA019-065) in this townland but it is unlocated and it is not clear whether or not there is any connection between the two sites' (NMI File) Compiled by Caimin O'Brien Date of upload / revision : 10 August 2012
