Burial

What is recorded here

Lacken, County Carlow, holds a buried life revealed only when David Grahan dug on his farm in 1890. A small food vessel emerged, perhaps placed beside someone dead, suggesting the field once marked a sacred boundary rather than ordinary soil. The discovery transforms a working farm into a threshold where the living and forgotten still share the same earth.
The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Found on David Grahan's farm at Lacken 1890'. Small vase food vessel, probably from burial. (NMI file)
