Burial in Knockaunmore

Not a church, not a shrine, but a buried life: in October 1957 a bulldozer cut through an esker at Knockaunmore and exposed human remains on the south slope, about thirty-two metres east of the abbey graveyard wall. The field was being levelled for a farm when the dead came back into the light, not through prayer but through muscle, steel and hunger for usable land. They were not named in what survives, yet the place still holds them: a line of bones beneath ordinary soil, waiting for the day someone walked past and stopped.
