Kilgowan in County Kildare became a temporary burial chamber when a gravel ridge fell away during road works in 1984. At least three adults and possibly an adolescent lay there, though the exact spot where they had been placed was never recovered. They reappeared only through the scar made by the road, as if the ground had been holding them until it was broken open.

In 1984, human remains were discovered after the removal of a gravel ridge during a road-widening project, and were investigated ex situ by NMI staff. A minimum of four individuals were present, at least three adults and a possible adolescent. The precise original location of the burials was not determined.
