Cooltoran in County Laois hides buried lives beneath ordinary sand. Men quarrying the pit in 1952 watched a bank collapse and release human bones from two metres below, though no cist or pottery appeared to mark the death. The dead had waited patiently under the ground, emerging only when the living dug too deep.

Human bones were discovered when a bank collapsed durin work in a sand-pit, no trace of a cist or pottery was uncovered. Unlocated burials found in 1952 in quarrying of a sand pit in the townland of Cooltoran (OPW file), the burials were at a depth of c. 2m feet below the surface of the ground.
