Burial in Carrowlisdooaun

Found on excavation of barrow (MA100-071001-), in 1934. Traces of a fire and ashes were found on the old ground surface. Tiny fragments of bone, covered by a small flat slab, were found on the E side. They represented an adult burial and possibly that of an infant. Finds included a number of flint scrapers, a bronze axe, pot sherds and a flint point (JRSAI 1935, 75-82). The above description has been derived from D. A Neolithic burial within a barrow, dating to approximately 2500–2000 BCE. Its significance lies in providing evidence of early funerary practices and cremation in the region.
