Burial in Baile An Sceilg

Burial

What is recorded here

October 1962, coastal erosion stripped bog from the shore near Ballinskelligs Abbey and exposed a skeleton close to the surface. The sea did not bury the person so much as it waited for the right storm to reveal what the land had hidden. That much is known; the life behind the bones remains a gap the waveform keeps pulling at.
In October 1962, human remains were discovered on the sea-shore close to Ballinskelligs Abbey (KE097-036----). The skeleton was noticed close to the surface in sandy soil, which had previously been bog but had been washed away by coastal erosion. Compiled by: Matt Kelleher Date of upload: 28 January 2013
