Bigmeadow: An unmarked burial in Athlone. In 1992, a child's skull and an adult skull surfaced in a garden ditch on Connolly Street, perhaps cast out during the 1691 siege. The bones left the living world without warning, bypassing every ceremony that usually separates the dead from the streets above them.

Unlocated burial on Connolly Street, Athlone town. According to the files in the National Museum of Ireland in July 1992 human remains were discovered in the back garden of a dwelling house at Connolly Street, Athlone, Co. Westmeath (Cahill & Sikora 2011, vol. 2, 518). They were apparently found in a ditch, described as measuring 0.9m x 1.2m oriented north-east/south-west. The remains were given to Mr Gearoid O'Brien of Westmeath County Library, who handed them over to the NMI. The remains consisted of part of a child's skull, an adult skull and portion of a long bone of an animal. Their original disposition in the trench is not known (1992:25.1-3).
