Burial Ground

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

This site is depicted as a circular enclosure, titled 'Burial ground' (KE070-067----), on both editions of the OS maps. It was described in the OSNB as a fort with a burial ground, which was locally known as the 'White Fort' (Killinane, 37). There are a few upright slabs within its stony interior, which may relate to the site's use as a burial ground. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 624. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 29 July 2013

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
