Burial ground in Townparks (ardee By.)

Burial ground

What is recorded here

Ardee’s oldest dead may still lie beneath Townparks, caught between John Street and the river. Children in local tradition pointed to that hidden graveyard, giving the ordinary town edge a shadow older than its shops. The ground has not forgotten them; it waits patient under footpaths, gardens and rushing water.
The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Local tradition of graveyard between John St., Ardee and the river. (IFC Schools MSS 669, 65).

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
