Burial ground in Templemary

Burial ground

What is recorded here

Kilmichael church and burial ground vanished into the southern pasture of Templemary House, leaving only low undulations behind. Sheep still graze above the forgotten dead, their hooves pressing grass over what might be marked graves or forgotten walls. The field keeps both secrets: the church that stood there and the people who stopped coming when it disappeared.
In pasture, on gentle S-facing slope, in SE corner of field; within demesne of Templemary House. Locally known as site of Kilmichael burial ground and church (14532). Low undulations noted in area of site. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
