What is recorded here

Milltown holds a disused burial ground where a small cairn still stands beside an uncultivated patch of stone. The graveyard stopped receiving new bodies long before modern roads passed it, yet the cairn preserves a shape of loss that resists forgetting. People may have placed stones there for centuries, building a marker that outlived the hands which made it.

The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Disused and unenclosed graveyard visible as stony and uncultivated patch (dims. c. 5m x 7m). Small cairn of unknown antiquity, recorded by O'Toole (JKAS 1933, 245), is visible.
