Burial ground in Lavey

Burial ground

What is recorded here

Ancient graves sleep beneath low-lying soil near a stream in County Cavan, linked to St Dabnet's Chapel and lost time. The earth keeps what sight cannot find, holding breath and memory instead of stone. People may have walked here for centuries, trusting the ground to remember them when charm and witness departed.
Traditionally known as an ancient graveyard associated with St Dabnet's Chapel (1631), 450m to NNE (local information). Situated in low-lying ground close to a stream. No visible remains at ground level. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
