Burial ground in Grangemellon

Burial ground

What is recorded here

No one knows where the dead from Grangemellon sleep now. A road cut opened their graves in 1961, men saw five or seven sets of bones, then moved them somewhere never written down. The living got their pavement, the dead lost their address.
In 1961, human remains were discovered during the bulldozing of a gravel ridge through which a road was being cut. According to reports, between five and seven skeletons were discovered at a depth of 0.5-0.6m below ground level, but had been reburied elsewhere before they could be archaeologically examined. The precise locations of the original burials and subsequent reinterments are unknown. (Cahill and Sikora 2011, Vol 2, 483) Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 11 February 2013
