Burial ground in Ballyriree

In pasture on SE-facing slope. Roughly rectangular area (6.8m N-S; 5.8m E-W) raised c. 0.5m above surrounding field; abuts rock outcrop to S. Surface strewn with stones, some upright. Traditionally known as burial ground (Roberts 1988). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. A roughly rectangular raised stone-strewn area, possibly a Neolithic or early Bronze Age cairn or cist burial site; its traditional designation as a burial ground suggests local awareness of its funerary function, though specific type and period remain undetermined.
