What is recorded here
Burial Ground for Children appears on an 1840 map in County Clare, Ireland, marking a small lost area on a sunny slope. No stones remain visible, yet the name still points to children buried there. The land has forgotten the shape of the place while preserving the fact that it existed.
Situated on a SE-facing slope in rough pasture. A children’s burial ground is indicated and named ‘Burial Ground for Children’ on the 1840 OS 6-inch map (dims. c. 15m NW-SE; c. 10m NE-SW). A possible outline is visible on Digital Globe aerial photography but this could not be seen at ground level. The location used is that shown on the 1st edition, superimposed on the current OS mapping. There are no headstones visible.
