What is recorded here

You can picture the workhouse children running past this grave, perhaps a girl chasing a boy along the fence line before the guard called them back. The burial ground holds those the state forgot to name, and the plain cross exists because no family arrived with marble or pride. Galway rain still moves through the soil, keeping the dead company while the living scroll past without knowing what they refuse to see.

This burial ground is associated with the 19th-century Union Workhouse (GA046-006----) c. 100m to the SSW. It is enclosed by a concete fence and is no longer in use. A simple cross commemorates all those buried there. Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 2 November 2018
