Burial Ground

Burial ground

What is recorded here

In a cashel (MA063-028001). A burial ground is indicated in the cashel on the 1838 and 1920 OS 6-inch maps. The cashel interior is bisected, slightly S of centre, by a stone wall (Wth 0.8m; H 0.8m) on an E-W axis. To S of the bisecting wall, several small, low upright uninscribed stone slabs protrude from the ground. They appear to be grave markers. The area in general is strewn with much stone, and largely obscured by blackthorn. According to local information the burials were mainly of unbaptised babies.
