Bullaun stone in Sevenchurches OR Camaderry

Located: incorporated into a modern altar at E end of chancel of St Mary's church (WI023-003001). Sub-circular bullaun of mica schist at E end of chancel (Dims. 75 by 58 by 22 cm), basin diam. 26 by 24 by D. 8 cm. (Healy 1972, 104). Probably dating to the early medieval period, the bullaun stone may have had ritual or Christian significance, possibly used for ritual purification or as a pilgrim stone. Its incorporation into a church altar suggests later ecclesiastical reuse.
