In the E half of Montiagh graveyard (SL042-004001-), incorporated into the E side of a low stone wall surrounding a 19th-century grave. A square stone (0.55m x 0.55m) with a circular hollow (diam. 0.38m; D 0.13m). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). Likely dating to the early medieval period, the Bullaun stone may have been used for ritual purposes, such as the preparation of holy water. Such stones are often associated with Christian or pre-Christian traditions and are sometimes linked to local folklore involving healing or spiritual practices.
