What is recorded here

Mollaneen held a double bullaun at St. Tola’s holy well in 1839, but that stone had vanished from the place before Westropp wrote in 1900. The marker may have been buried, broken or simply forgotten as the well changed around it. What is left is a gap where water, prayer and stone touched, reminding us that even sacred things can slip from human memory.

Westropp (1900-02, 141) noted that a double bullaun, extant in 1839 at St. Tola’s holy well (CL025-097----), was no longer evident at that location. Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 27 September 2017
