Bullaun stone in Lickeen

Bullaun 4 in Lickeen is largely buried in the ground, on its side and not in situ. It is within an area where other boulders have been buried, underneath a thorn tree. Only a small portion of the stone is visible and unobscured. It consists of a granite boulder. Two small arcs of two separate basins can be made out on two different ends of the stone, indicating that this consists of two opposing bowls, carved on two different ends of the stone. Likely dating to the early Christian or later prehistoric period, bullaun stones were traditionally used for grinding holy items or as ritual sites. Local folklore sometimes associates them with saintly activity or protective charms.
