What is recorded here

On level, low lying reclaimed ground, c. 5m to the NE of the Camlin River and c. 300m to the NW of Ballykenny Bridge. A number of circular and curvilinear indentations and tiny shallow depressions visible on the upper face and sides of an irregularly shaped boulder appear to be natural. However, one centrally located circular hollow (diam. 0.28m; max. D 0.22m) appears to have been cut. The stone had been removed for safe-keeping to a farmhouse nearby, but was returned a few years ago to what is believed locally to be its original location (SMR file). Mass was said at here during Penal times and two priests captured here during this period were subsequently executed (ibid.). (Murphy 2000, 78; Mimnagh 2010, 379 380) Compiled by: Patrick F.
