Canon Courtenay Moore (1908, 64-5) was informed of a bullaun stone in farmyard of John Kent, ploughed up 25 years before, which was 'six inches high' and had a diameter of 'fourteen inches'; diameter of hollow surface was 'eight inches on top and seven at the bottom' and had depth of 'three inches.' Present location of stone not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). Likely dating to the early medieval period, bullaun stones were often used for ritual purposes, such as anointing with holy water or as Christian holy wells. Local folklore may have associated this stone with healing or spiritual significance.
