Bullaun stone in Ballynahown

On N edge of reclaimed grassland, on low NE facing slope of rising ground on edge of poorly drained land with stream 50m to NNE. Bullaun stone (WM035-007----) 32m to E and second bullaun stone (WM035-009----) 460m to SSE. Ballynahown Court 610m to E. Unable to locate bullaun stone recorded by the Archaeological Survey of Ireland (ASI) in 1979 when it was described as following; ‘About 32m due W from the above bullaun (WM035-007----) there is another bullaun stone containing three depressions. The W depression is 30cm in max. width and 8cm deep. The middle depression is 25m in diam. and 6.5cm in depth. The E depression is partly covered by a thin sod. It is 32cm in diam. and 10cm in depth. This depression does not have the same reddened appearance as the others’ (SMR file 02/04/1979). In 1982 the ASI were unable to locate this bullaun and it was speculated that the stone may have been moved during land reclamation works which were carried out in this field (SMR file 09/09/1982).
