Bullaun is a flat-topped stone slab in County Mayo, Ireland, marked by a central circular depression and set at the edge of a children’s burial ground. It is the kind of place where prayer, loss and endurance become visible in stone. The dish may have worn through years of kneeling, or it may simply be the shape a community gave to what it could not stop. Either way, the stone still holds that repeated human pressure.

Likely dating to the early Christian period, the bullaun stone may have been used for ritual purposes, such as the preparation of holy water. Its location within an ecclesiastical enclosure suggests a religious or ceremonial significance.
