Bullaun

Protruding from a tuft of grass at the W corner of a children’s burial ground (MA093-014002-), located within the E half of an ecclesiastical enclosure (MA093-014001-). A polygonal, flat-topped slab of stone (max. dim. 0.6m; T c. 0.2m) on the upper surface of which is a central circular depression (diam. 0.28m; D 0.09m). Likely dating to the early Christian period, the bullaun stone may have been used for ritual purposes, such as the preparation of holy water. Its location within an ecclesiastical enclosure suggests a religious or ceremonial significance.
