Brewery in Tallaght

Brewery

What is recorded here

Handcock’s long house, attached to the castle, was once a working brewery with a nearby hop garden. It is gone now, leaving only the memory of a place where hops grew and beer was made.
Handcock refers to a long house attached to the castle which was apparently of the same age. Formerly part of it was used as a brewery, and the adjacent field was known as the hop garden. It was later used as a granary and stables (Handcock 1899, 34). The precise location of this building is unknown. Compiled by Geraldine Stout
