What is recorded here

Brechin Castle survives only as a lost castle and a small perforated stone marked in the national record, not as a standing hall or dated chamber. That much is certain. The rest belongs to imagination: a room above Brechin, a lamp on a windowsill, a person alone with the river and the dark.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Brechin Castle as Findspot (period Unassigned), Perforated Object (stone)(period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Brechin Castle was a medieval fortress associated with the Leslie family, later Earls of Leven, and is remembered for its strategic role in the region during the 14th to 17th centuries. Its ruins remain a notable historic site in Brechin, Angus.
