Linked to St. Brechen, a 6th-century Irish monk and missionary associated with the spread of Christianity in Angus, the friary site may have been built on or near an earlier religious foundation. Local tradition suggests the area was once a place of pilgrimage, though specific cures or rituals connected to the site are not well documented.
