Bob Doyle

Bob Doyle was born on 12th February 1916 at 15 Linenhall Street in Dublin’s northwest inner city. His parents had moved there in 1915 after the area’s redevelopment, leaving behind overcrowded rooms where two of their children had already died in infancy. The street sat within a triangle of main roads once thriving with linen trade, but by then reduced to decaying tenements and some of the worst slums in Dublin. Bob entered the world into that cramped, dangerous place, the second youngest of five siblings in a family marked by loss and survival.
