Blockhouse in Waterford City

A blockhouse for artillery was built on the waterfront in front of Reginald's Tower (WA009-005001-) sometime after 1560. It was a low, stone-faced oval platform with embrasures for eight guns according to 17th-century maps. It was described as being 'the lower platform supplied with seven or eight great guns, well mounted' by Mr. Dean Stanhope in the 1680s (Walton 1987, 32).
