BIVALLATE RATH: DUNEANY in Duneany

BIVALLATE RATH: DUNEANY

What is recorded here

Duneany holds a bivallate rath, meaning two concentric rings of earth enclose one another instead of a single wall. That double boundary suggests the place excluded more deliberately than an ordinary farmstead. People may have lived inside the inner ring while the outer ring marked territory, ceremony or warning. The earth still repeats that shape in County Antrim, waiting for a visitor to read its patience.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as BIVALLATE RATH: DUNEANY. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
