Bernadette Ní Ghallchóir was born in County Monaghan, Ireland around 1947 or 1948, then carried that small northern voice across Dublin television until she stopped performing and began shaping material instead. She hosted the 1971 Eurovision Song Contest, helped open RTÉ Two in 1978, and later married Seán Ó hUigínn, the former Ambassador of Ireland to the United States. A girl from Monaghan became a national fixture, then left the camera behind to make something visible with her hands.
